About the Provision

Choose Nature CIC (Badger Forest School) provides specialist outdoor alternative provision for children and young people who benefit from a nurturing, relationship-based approach to learning. Working across several woodland sites in Cornwall, the organisation supports children who may be experiencing barriers to education, including anxiety, emotional wellbeing difficulties, neurodivergence, school avoidance and other additional needs.

At the heart of the programme is the belief that children thrive when they feel safe, understood and connected. Every young person receives an individual programme designed around their strengths, interests and support needs. Experienced leaders build trusting relationships over time, helping children develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation while encouraging curiosity, independence and a positive sense of self.

Learning takes place almost entirely outdoors through practical, hands-on experiences that naturally encourage engagement. Activities may include bushcraft, shelter building, campfire cooking, woodland crafts, wildlife exploration, sensory activities, tool use, rope work and nature-based creative projects. These experiences help develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, motor skills and confidence while allowing children to reconnect with learning in a way that feels meaningful and enjoyable.

Choose Nature works closely with schools, local authorities, social care teams and other professionals to provide bespoke Alternative Provision and EOTAS support. Sessions are carefully matched to each child, with most delivered as 2:1 support or in very small groups to ensure young people receive the right level of guidance while building positive relationships with trusted adults and peers.

The organisation is deeply committed to trauma-informed practice and creating calm, inclusive environments where children can develop at their own pace. Alongside its Alternative Provision, Choose Nature also offers a range of community and family programmes, helping strengthen connections with nature, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for children and families to learn and grow together.
