Three Bridges School

Three Bridges School provides specialist Post-16 SEND provision near Truro, Cornwall, as part of its small independent SEND school for young people aged 11–19.

The school supports young people with a broad range of SEND and specialises in autism and associated needs. Its provision also includes learners with SEMH, communication and interaction needs, learning difficulties, physical disabilities and sensory needs.

Learning is personalised around each young person’s individual needs, interests, aspirations and EHCP outcomes. The curriculum combines academic learning with practical skills, independence, outdoor learning and preparation for adulthood.

Qualifications

At Key Stage 4 and Post-16, learners can work towards a range of qualifications depending on their individual abilities and goals. Current pathways include GCSEs, AQA Unit Awards and Functional Skills, including English, Maths and Digital Skills.

Careers and preparation for adulthood form an important part of the curriculum. Learners have opportunities to explore future pathways, meet employers, experience workplaces and develop skills for further education, training and employment.

Location

The school is based in a quiet rural location at Blackwater, near Truro, and provides individualised and small-group learning within a specialist SEND environment.

An EHCP is normally required for admission. Families who feel Three Bridges may be appropriate should speak to their Local Authority SEN caseworker, who can consult with the school about whether it can meet the young person’s needs.

How to access the provision

Young people normally require an EHCP to attend Three Bridges. If a parent or carer feels the school may be suitable, they should contact their Local Authority SEN caseworker and ask for Three Bridges to be considered. The Local Authority will consult with the school, which considers each referral individually to determine whether it can meet the young person’s needs.

In some circumstances, where a young person does not yet have an EHCP, Three Bridges may be able to offer a short-term placement while the EHCP assessment process takes place, subject to capacity and Local Authority involvement.
