The Acrewood Project — outdoor alternative learning
The Acrewood Project — outdoor alternative learning
Nature-based learning on a smallholding, with animals, practical activities and space to build confidence.
Who it is for
Children and young people aged 5–25 with SEND, neurodivergence, anxiety, sensory differences or difficult experiences of school, including home-educated learners and those struggling to access mainstream education. The charity’s approach centres on individual interests and a sense of belonging.
What is available
Activities include animal care, gardening, bushcraft and practical smallholding skills. Learning supports confidence, emotional regulation and everyday skills in an outdoor setting. Individualised 1:1 and small-group alternative provision is offered Tuesday to Friday, with staffing and activities tailored to each learner. Programmes include structured learning and practical certificates in animal care, conservation, wildlife, homesteading and countryside skills.
Getting started
Contact Acrewood to discuss the learner’s age, needs, current sessions and referral arrangements. Places are arranged individually following an initial discussion; introductory settling-in sessions can support a gradual transition. Parents/carers are not normally required to stay or provide individual support during booked alternative provision, as Acrewood arranges this. Separate Stay & Play sessions are family-based. Confirm availability, fees, transport and the precise meeting point before visiting.
